EPRI conducted an innovative, tailored learning and development programme for 39 World Food Programme (WFP) staff across the East Africa region representing the first of its kind conducted for WFP in East Africa. This interactive and action-focused online capacity building programme was designed to equip staff with tools critical to supporting national social protection systems and carrying out complementary actions to deliver the two WFP strategic priorities of enabling people to meet essential needs and to manage risks and shocks, as set out in the WFP Corporate Strategy for Support to Social Protection.
Plenary sessions paired the cross-functional internal expertise of WFP with external subject-matter experts and academics, to deliver the conceptual foundations as well as advanced concepts and cross-cutting themes in social protection. The course was aligned with the WFP Corporate Strategy for Support to Social Protection and was further tailored to the context of East Africa through consultations with WFP representatives to identify the priority areas and existing gaps in regional social protection systems.
