Assessment of COVID-19’s effects on child poverty and the efficacy of social protection response

Commenced in 2020, EPRI continued to work on the assessment of COVID-19’s effects on child poverty and the efficacy of the social protection response.

With the objective to better understand the efficacy of the Government’s social protection response – the Social Amelioration Program – in alleviating the effects of COVID-19 on vulnerable households and children, primary data collection activities with programme implementers and beneficiaries of the response were caried out in six regions of the archipelago.

The final assessment report speaks to the efficacy and relevance of the SAP to alleviate the effects of the pandemic on households and provides recommendations to enhance the existing government response with a focus on child poverty.

In addition to the assessment report, in 2021, EPRI developed an academic paper, integrating results from the SAP assessment and two earlier studies it did on the effects of COVID-19 on child poverty and socio-economic well-being in the Philippines
